IPL main sponsor race: Tata and Sons lag behind Patanjali

MUMBAI:Tata and Sons have overtaken Baba Ramdev's Patanjali in the IPL main sponsorship race, which is set to begin in the UAE from September 14. After the removal of Vivo from the IPL's main sponsorship list this year, some companies have expressed interest in becoming the main sponsor. Patanjali, a foreign company, Amazon and Baba Ramdev were the main claimants.

It was rumored that Patanjali could be selected as an IPL sponsor this year. But at the last minute, Tata and Sons have expressed interest in hosting the IPL and have tendered for it. Tata is said to have overtaken everyone in the race. The final decision will be made on the 16th.

According to a senior BCCI official, Tata & Sons has tendered for the right to sponsor. As a large and popular brand in India, it is ahead of the other 4 competitors. The BCCI wants to give IPL sponsorship rights to any domestic company this year.

The BCCI is also ready to do something about it. Among the companies interested in sponsoring are Tata Sons, non-academies related to education, Geo and Patanjali, while foreign (Chinese) companies Baiju have also applied. As a Chinese company, Baiju is more likely to lose sponsorship.
