Tensions rise between US and Iran: US seizes 4 tankers on its way to Venezuela

New York: The United States has seized four tankers transporting crude oil from Iran to Venezuela. U.S. officials said Thursday that sanctions had been imposed on Iran and Venezuela The move is aimed at increasing pressure on the two countries.

However, the Iranian ambassador to Venezuela, Hozad Sultani, tweeted on Thursday that the owner of the seized tanker was not Iranian.

It is reported that the United States has declared Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization. A senior U.S. official, however, said no military force was used in the operation. The tankers were not confiscated, he said, but they handed it over to the U.S. after U.S. authorities warned tank owners and captains.
