New Delhi: Former president of India, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, was born on October 15 in Tamil Nadu. He studied aerospace engineering and worked as a scientist.

Kalam, who was also known as the ‘missile man’ and ‘People’s President’, passed away in 2015 while delivering a lecture at the IIM-Shillong in Meghalaya due to cardiac arrest. In 1997, Kalam was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
