COVID-19: India reports over 1.68 lakh new cases with 904 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India records fresh 1,68,912 cases of COVID-19 virus in the past 24 hours with 904 deaths, whereas 75,086 recovered from the virus as per the data of Union Health Ministry.

India’s total caseload has now reached 1,35,27,717 with active cases at 12,01,009 and 1,70,179 people succumbed to the virus. Meanwhile, 1,21,56,529 people have recovered from the virus since the start of the pandemic.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 11,80,136 samples were tested for COVID-19 infection on Sunday. With this, the total samples tested in the country reached 25,78,06,986.

India has vaccinated 10,45,28,565 people since starting the nation wide vaccination drive on January 16. Vaccination drive is being carried out in different phases, during the first phase only frontline workers and health workers were administered with the vaccine. The second phase started on March 1 where doses were administered to people above the age of 60 and those between 45 and 59 years with specific comorbidities. From April 2, the government started vaccinating all people above 45 years.
