Dehradun, July 25, 2024 – In a vibrant display of environmental commitment, the district of Dehradun marked the traditional folk festival 'Harela' with extensive tree plantation programs. Celebrated for its dedication to environmental protection, Harela saw a series of impactful initiatives aimed at fostering greenery and promoting ecological well-being.
As part of the celebrations, District Magistrate Sonika, accompanied by a team of officers and personnel, took part in a symbolic tree planting event at the Collectorate premises. The 'Rashi Vatika,' a special garden featuring trees corresponding to the 12 zodiac signs, was inaugurated, emphasizing a connection to the cultural and traditional heritage of Devbhoomi.
District Magistrate Sonika highlighted the significance of the Harela festival, stating, "Harela embodies the people's deep-rooted commitment to environmental conservation. This year's festival theme, 'Protecting the environment, greenery in every home, bringing prosperity and happiness,' reflects our collective goal to safeguard our natural resources. I urge everyone to pledge their dedication to the preservation and growth of the saplings we have planted."
In addition to the symbolic planting of zodiac trees, the District Magistrate directed officials to ensure the upkeep of the 'Rashi Vatika' and the planting of grass to enhance its ecological balance. The District Magistrate also planted a 'Camphor' tree during a separate tree plantation drive organized by the Forest Department at Maldevata Raipur.
The event was attended by City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, District Magistrate's Chief Personal Assistant Virendra Singh, Deputy District Magistrate Headquarters Shalini Negi, Head Nazir Buddhiram Bijlwan, and District Magistrate's assistant Harish Pandey, among other Collectorate officers, employees, and environmental enthusiasts. Together, they underscored the spirit of Harela and the shared commitment to nurturing the environment.
